dispatches from teh intarweb

A brief roundup of what’s been occupying my unhealthily wired brain lately.

—–

New horizons in fried food [Mark's Daily Apple].

—–

A vast round of Half.com purchases, inspired by Sardo’s dedication and this reading list. I also picked up some plant field guides and a copy of 50 Hikes in Western Pennsylvania in preparation for a project hereafter known as Operation Shark Tent.

—–

LocalHikes is also proving useful (inspiring?) in the planning of O.S.T. Some possibilities, albeit rather further afield than I was hoping for, include this, this, and this (the 8-mile version with Laurel Run and Wolf Rock add-ons).

—–

Here’s the website for a cool anthropological/archaeological project, Workshop of the World. An overview of the Philadelphia focused endeavor here.

—–

Can’t tell if the Poster List is awesome or terrible and college-y, but it sure is pretty to look at…

—–

Recent crafty purchases include button sets and a print from BoyGirlParty; and a Kelly Lynn Jones print via Tiny Showcase.

—–

I’ve been meaning to combine this fabric and this sweater (in a bright purple to which the web graphix don’t do justice) for an awesome appliqueed garment, but have yet to decide on what shape patch to make. Ideas on the table include a gigantic heart and an Autobot logo…suggestions welcome.

Art Bars from Ithaca Fine Chocolates are a pretty good idea, I think. The chocolate itself is pricy–$2.87 at Mariposa–but for your buck(s) you get both delicious chocolate and also a 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ reproduction of a piece by either an adult or child artist.

This afternoon I bought a bar of Swiss Dark Chocolate which had a strong candied citrus flavor and came with a Betsy Stirratt card. Woohoo!

Photographs from recent field trips to Wissahickon Creek, Rancocas Nature Center, and Valley Forge. Valley Forge photos are notably sparse because I finally brought along a 4B pencil today and spent most of the day sketching instead of snapping.
